The Party Facts

The Boating Party,
An oil canvas painting
(44 1/8 x 54 1/4 in.)
Located at the National Gallery of Art in DC.
It is included in the Chester Dale Collection.
This painting was created in the winter of 1893 to 1894 in France.
The colors used are variations of blue, yellow, pink, green, gray, and brown. The composition of this painting is asymmetrical. Closely knit figures are placed on the right side as well as the concentration of dark blue. The boat, sail, and oars seem to extend beyond the painting because of the perspective. The edge of the sail and the edge of the boat are parallel, as the seats of the boat are parallel to the distant shore line.
